Management reports

Most business owners make critical decisions on hiring, investment, pricing, or cashflow with financial data that's months out of date. Your annual tax return is a legal requirement, not a management tool.

Management accounts change that. Prepared monthly or quarterly, they give you a live picture of how your business is actually performing: what's coming in, what's going out, how you're tracking against targets, and where attention is needed before small problems become expensive ones.

This is the reporting that established, growth-focused businesses run on. It's what moves accounting from a compliance exercise to a genuine business advantage.

At Beany, our reporting has a 3-step framework. Alongside your standard management report, you also get a Business Insights report and a session with your accountant to talk it all through. It's the kind of strategic financial thinking you'd usually only get from a Big Four firm or an in-house CFO.

What's included

There are 3 parts to every reporting period and together they give you a complete picture of your business. We refer to this as Executive Intelligence.

Business Insights report

Written analysis with key insights and recommendations.

Management report

A set of financial reports, including your profit and loss, balance sheet, cashflow, and aged receivables and payables.

A session with your accountant

Walk through what's happened and suggestions for what to do next.

Business Insights report

Unique to Beany, this report translates the numbers for the reporting period into written analysis.

It's a short, structured report covering what's gone well, what's worth watching, and where to focus your attention.

The Business Insights report covers:

  • Business summary - A three-part executive snapshot with current state (what), implications (so what), and recommended actions (now what).
  • Performance rating - A verdict on business health with a rating of Excellent, Good, Fair, or Poor, along with a short rationale behind the rating.
  • Key strengths & Areas to watch - Evidence-backed callouts with every point tied to a real dollar figure, percentage, or named account.
  • Key metrics - Benchmarked against your industry and prior period. See where you're outperforming, similar, trailing or what needs urgent attention.
  • Strategic outlook - Prioritised actionable recommendations combined with a suggested timeframe and the expected result if the action is implemented.
  • Final narrative - An overview that ties everything together.

Strategy and insights discussion

After each reporting period, meet with your accountant to go over the data. This is where their analysis turns into insights that help you make decisions.

Your accountant will walk you through what the numbers show and answer any questions you have on the period's results.

You leave with a better understanding of where things stand and what to focus your attention on next.
