Business advisory

We understand every Kiwi business is unique. Our advisory services are designed to give you flexible support when you need it. Exclusively available to existing clients and custom-quoted to ensure they fit your requirements.

Your accountant sees your numbers more clearly than almost anyone. That puts them in a unique position to help you think through decisions that aren't just about tax. Whether you're buying a business, planning an exit, restructuring to grow, or working out whether the numbers actually support what you're planning.

Advisory engagements are scoped around what you need, quoted upfront and delivered by your accountant who knows your business. You'll always know what's involved, what it costs, and what you'll get at the end before you commit.

Some advisory conversations take an hour; others are multi-week projects. We'll scope it honestly.

What we can help with

The questions we help you answer

Advisory is something you need at specific moments when something significant is happening in your business and you need expert thinking, not just a tax return.

Business structuring and restructuring

The right structure for your business affects how you pay tax, how you protect assets, and how easy it is to bring in partners or exit later. We'll analyse your situation and advise on the structure that makes the most sense — and help you implement it.

Buying or selling a business

Whether you're acquiring or exiting, there's a lot the numbers need to tell you first. We can provide business valuations, review financial statements, advise on deal structure and tax implications, and help you understand what you're actually buying or selling.

Succession and exit planning

A good exit takes years to set up properly. We'll help you understand what your business is worth, what structure best supports a transition, and what needs to happen financially before you can step back — on your terms.

Strategic growth planning

Growth has a financial cost before it has a financial return. We can stress-test your growth plans against your numbers, model different scenarios, and help you understand the financial requirements of the path you're planning.

Finance and funding support

We don't advise on whether to take on funding or which lender to use — but we prepare the financial documentation that lenders and investors need to make a decision. Forecasts, financial statements, management packs, and anything else required to support your application.

Property investment

Property decisions have real tax consequences — bright-line rules, interest deductibility, how the property is owned, whether it sits in a trust or company. We advise on the tax implications of property investment decisions, not on whether to invest.

Dividend calculations

Make tax-efficient and sustainable decisions about profit distribution. We calculate dividends based on your company’s financial position, legal requirements and long-term growth plans, giving you clarity on how much can be withdrawn while keeping your business healthy.

Something else entirely

Advisory work doesn't always fit a tidy list. If you have a question or a decision in front of you that needs proper thinking — and you want your accountant involved — get in touch and we'll work out whether and how we can help.

Advisory

Frequently Asked Questions

Generally yes. Advisory work builds on a deep understanding of your financial position, which we develop through the ongoing accounting relationship. In some cases we can assist non-clients with a specific, self-contained piece of work, but we'd have to discuss that on a case-by-case basis.
It depends entirely on what's involved. A one-off consultation might be a flat fee for an hour of your accountant's time. A business valuation, restructure, or exit planning engagement is more involved and priced accordingly. We scope and quote every engagement before work starts so you'll always know the cost before you commit.
